the main reson for this is the excellent implementation of the multi-user level in linux. the highest user in linux is the root who can do anything in the computer. hacking the root password in linux is highly impossible. all other users in linux do not get as much permissions as the root user. hence they cannot do much. if a virus enters while a user is using his computer then the virus is allowed to run with only the permissions that the user has and not the actual root privileges. hence the maximum damage the virus can do is cause damage to the induvidual user’s settings and may be data but the operating system remains unaffected and if the root user is informed then deleting the virus is a very easy process
