What is an exit code in Bash scripting? How can you check the exit code of the last executed command?

exit codes are the numeric codes that a bash command returns when it finishes executing.it returns 0 for success and return 1 for unsuccessful.

when programs executes two things happen the 1st one is it shows the output and the other thing is it stores the exit code in environment variable.

we can check the exit code using command echo $?

In bash scripting , exit code is a numeric value which is returned by bash command after execution.

exit code is used to determine the status of the command executed whether it was success or fail.

we can check the exit code of the last executed command by checking the value of env variable `?` using echo statement like echo $?
